Towards the end of the 1990s, CIÉ commissioned a report into the requirements of Dublin Bus for a seven-year period up to 2006.
One of the recommendations was the construction of a new garage to house and maintain a growing fleet.
The site at Harristown, near Dublin Airport, was selected in anticipation of a significant population rise predicted for the North Dublin area.
Construction of the depot began in August 2003 by main contractor PJ Walls to a design by Project Management Limited. Funding was supported from the Government's National Development Plan.
The new Garage, which commenced operations in October 2004, is equipped with full maintenance, servicing and administration facilities - and is the first garage to be built for Dublin Bus in over 30 years.
